Leuze

These photographs were taken of strangers at Leuze, a mineral bath in Stuttgart, Germany. I was drawn to the particular mix of anonymity and intimacy in the bathhouse where I observed a beautiful forgetfulness on the faces of strangers. The subjects were photographed immediately following a German bathhouse ritual called the Aufguss. Due to language differences, little to no conversation occurred while the photographs were taken. The portraits speak of the body and issues of embodiment. In a reversal of many of my other projects, the people create an indirect portrait of the space.
